Picture Post Digital Earth Watch image analysis software- Digital photographs taken from the same location and positioned in the same direction and orientation allow individuals, schools, communities, and scientists to monitor a variety of environmental parameters. Picture Post participants study change over time in their local area, view NASA satellite imagery taken on the same day as their pictures, and contribute towards improving their own communities. Inspire Future Engineers web site- Designed by the Department of Engineering at the
University of Cambridge, Interactive science & engineering (for 9 to11 year olds) presents five games involving the subtopics of Light, Sound, Forces & Motion, Earth &Beyond and Electricity. Each game contains a number of interactive modules, split into three sections: learning, testing and engineering applications. Students can launch themselves into Alien Attack, immerse themselves in Ocean Odyssey, brave the rides in Park World Plot, take a giant leap in Astro Adventure and go undercover with Silicon Spies. Wonders of the Ocean- A Fisheries & Aquaculture module for students ages 8-12, helping them to understand the importance of ocean conservation and responsible fishing. The lessons address six themes through an interdisciplinary approach: the richness of the oceans; creatures inhabiting the oceans; food from the oceans; people who depend on the oceans; bad and good practices and their impacts on the oceans; and the importance of acting responsibly regarding the oceans. Each lesson includes an introduction, content, activities, and links to websites with additional resources.

Deadline for application November 15: Agriculture in a Growing World Essay Contest- One Alaska high school social science, science, or language arts who will commit to an essay contest with the theme, ” Agriculture in a Growing World” will receive 20 copies of “The Man Who Fed the World,” by Leon Hesser. Deadline for application December 13- Teacher scholarships for summer courses in Denali National Park and Preserve. These field-based courses are small group intensives that expose teachers to science, research, and educational opportunities using Denali as their classroom. Most courses are three days in length. Professional development credit (1-3 hours) is made available through

Submissions deadline November 29: Spirit of Innovation Challenge- An annual competition for high school students, inviting them to use science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills to develop the innovative products of tomorrow. Along the way, teams are matched with world-renowned scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs as mentors to assist them with advanced STEM and business principles.
